When you should have your brakes checked
It is recommended you have your brakes checked on a regular basis, at least once a year. However, if you notice any of the following you should immediately book an appointment.
- When you begin to hear a squealing noise when braking.
- When you’ve done a visual check and the lining is only around 3mm thick
- If the steering wheel vibrates when you brake
- If the brake pedal reacts differently (harder or softer)
- If the brakes don’t respond immediately
- If the brakes and/or ABS signals are lit on your dashboard
Brake Fluid Flush
Most motorists are not aware of the importance of having regular brake fluid checks. Your vehicles brake fluid becomes contaminated over time due to extreme pressure, heat and exposure to moisture. Failing to replace the fluid can impair braking ability. Dirty brake fluid can also damage the hydraulic components of your braking system. This preventative maintenance service can restore the ‘firmness’ of a brake pedal that feels ‘spongy’. It also helps prevent brake fade and prolongs the life of vital components.
Anti-Lock braking System (ABS)
Anti-lock Braking Systems are a feature of many modern and high performance cars but like any other part of a vehicle, they can sometimes fail. So whether you have a BMW, Volvo, Audi, Mercedes, VW, or any other make or model of car with ABS, if it’s not performing as it should, let one of our experienced brake mechanics take a look.
If your ABS warning light is illuminated, it does not necessarily mean that your vehicle will come to a halt. What it does mean, however, is that if you are forced to make an emergency stop, you will not be able to steer to avoid a collision. This is a serious problem if the road surface is slippery.
